A short, consistent inspection is more useful than an occasional marathon. Walk the same route each month and photograph anything that changes.
Outside
- Look for standing water, soil contacting siding, loose trim, and damaged roof edges visible from the ground.
- Confirm downspouts discharge away from the foundation.
- Notice new cracks, gaps, stains, leaning, or movement.
Inside
- Check below sinks, around toilets, and near water-using appliances.
- Look at ceilings and exterior walls for new discoloration.
- Listen for equipment that cycles differently than normal.
Document, do not diagnose
Date your photos, note weather conditions, and compare the same locations over time. If a condition is active, worsening, or unsafe, contact the appropriate qualified professional.
